Franklin Farm is one of the most loved neighborhoods in western Fairfax County. Beautiful parks, fishing ponds and miles of walking trails wind through the whole community, and the setting really can't be beat. Just as special is the community feel. People move here, raise their kids here and retire here, and it has been that way for decades.

I have helped buyers and sellers in Franklin Farm since 2003, and the same things come up every time. Neighbors know each other. Kids grow up walking the trails to friends' houses and the pool. The ponds, parks and big trees make it feel tucked away, even though you are minutes from the Toll Road, Reston and Dulles. When a home here comes on the market, it is often the first time in many years.

Franklin Farm is mostly single-family homes, many of them classic colonials built starting in the early 1980s on wooded, mature lots. You will find a range of sizes and updates, so two homes on the same street can be priced quite differently.
Market snapshot, November 6, 2026: 3 homes listed for sale or coming soon, priced from $899,900 to $1,150,000. They average 4 bedrooms and about 2,600 square feet.
Homes here don't come up often, so it pays to be ready. For recent sales and what your home is worth, give me a call.

Franklin Farm's shared spaces are managed by the Franklin Farm Foundation, the community's homeowners association. They include:

Franklin Farm Park, a Fairfax County park inside the community, adds ball fields and more open space. Community events throughout the year help keep that small-town feel. Amenities and HOA dues can change, so confirm current details with the Franklin Farm Foundation before you buy.
The name comes from a real farm. In 1936, airline pilot James Franklin bought 100 acres here with winnings from a $10,000 sweepstakes. The farm grew to 827 acres, one of the largest in the area, before it was sold for development in 1979. Franklin Farm the community was established in 1980, back when this part of Fairfax County was mostly soybean fields and dirt roads.
Franklin Farm is served by Fairfax County Public Schools. Because the community is large, homes are split among several schools depending on the street:
| Elementary | Crossfield, Navy or Oak Hill |
|---|---|
| Middle | Rachel Carson or Franklin |
| High | Chantilly or Oakton now; Skyview or Oakton starting fall 2027 |
New boundaries start in fall 2027. Fairfax County is opening Skyview High School in the Floris area, and the part of Franklin Farm that now goes to Chantilly High will move to Skyview. Middle school lines for Carson and Franklin are changing too. If schools matter to your move, I can help you check a specific street.
School assignments depend on the exact address. Always confirm with the FCPS Boundary Locator and the FCPS boundary changes page. See all our neighborhoods on Schools by Neighborhood.
Homes have a Herndon mailing address (ZIP 20171), but Franklin Farm sits in unincorporated Fairfax County, outside the Town of Herndon. The Fairfax County Parkway runs right through the community, with quick access to the Dulles Toll Road, Route 28 and Route 50. Dulles Airport is just to the west, and the Silver Line Metro stations in Herndon and Reston are a short drive away. Fairfax Connector buses also serve the area.
A free Fairfax County park on West Ox Road that shows farm life from the 1920s to 1950s. Kids love the animals and wagon rides, and the holiday events are a local favorite.
Everyday shopping and services right in the neighborhood, so many errands stay close to home.
Local restaurants, community events and the W&OD Trail for longer walks and bike rides.
Shopping, dining, movies and seasonal events, a short drive up the Fairfax County Parkway.
"Cristina and her team made the entire process, from start to finish, go smoothly. I would highly recommend Cristina Dougherty and Associates to anyone who is looking for a professional and experienced realtor."

Homes use a Herndon mailing address, but Franklin Farm is in unincorporated Fairfax County, not the Town of Herndon. That means you pay Fairfax County taxes only, with no town tax.
Yes. The Franklin Farm Foundation manages the pools, ponds, trails, courts and open space. Ask for the current dues and rules before you make an offer.
Depending on the address: Crossfield, Navy or Oak Hill Elementary, Carson or Franklin Middle, and Chantilly or Oakton High. Starting in fall 2027, the Chantilly part moves to Skyview High, so confirm with the FCPS Boundary Locator.
They can be. Many owners stay for decades, so only a handful of homes are usually for sale at once. Getting pre-approved and setting up a search alert helps you move fast.
