Have you ever wondered why the MLS says 1100 square feet for a house you know is clearly larger than 1100 square feet?  The MLS defines taxable living space as living space that is above the ground. So, if you you have a 3 story house, and all 3 levels equal 3600 sq feet, chances are when you sell your house is listed as 2400 sq feet. It gets interesting when you are looking at a split level home. Again, the top floor is listed, but the bottom is not so it may –on first glance-look equal to the 1 level rambler next door.  Just keep this in mind when you compare square feet using any internet site without the guidance of a REALTOR®.
