Gutters. Really? Gutters. So I’ve been selling real estate for 8 years, I’ve owned my own home for 15 years. I have a lot of knowledge in the area of home maintenance. But sometimes the obvious is ones downfall. We don’t live among trees, I thought. The trees do not overhang the house, so gutter cleaning doesn’t apply to me. Wow, was I wrong! Unfortunately I had to learn the hard way. As water poured over the gutters in sheets of water, the dirt and mulch that surrounded our home soon washed away. It didn’t take long for a small pool of moisture to form in our basement. Along with that comes carpet replacement and the fear of mold. Luckily ours did not progress but I could have been facing $5000 of repair versus a very easy home maintenance call to a gutter cleaner. I witnessed the gutter cleaners removing handfuls of sand, leaves and general debris from all of our gutters. I was shocked. Sometimes you must learn the hard way, as we did. So I am here to tell you, get your gutters cleaned at least twice a year. Preventative maintenance will save you money in the end!
